A special type of mass-produced furniture for offices, factories and workshops appeared in the mid-nineteenth century, accompanying the so-called second industrial revolution. These devices, made of durable materials, practical and beautiful at the same time, have become today an element of various types of interior arrangements, from the classic, furnished with antique, to the lofts in strict, industrial aesthetics.
This book is a practical guide in which the author presents step by step the basics of refurbishing old office furniture. Frédérick Plun, a carpenter by profession, shares his passion with us in it and passes on renovation techniques developed over the past fifteen years.
The first part of the guide provides tips on how and where to look for valuable office furniture, as well as a list of necessary tools and a brief overview of the main methods and techniques. In the second part, we can see nine characteristic examples of old office furniture, which the author renovates. Each stage of work has been described here in detail and richly illustrated with photos.
The reader will learn how to independently clean metal surfaces from rust and layers of old paint, how to align fragments of bent sheet metal and how to clean wood so as not to deprive it of the precious patina. Discussed here are the now iconic furniture in France and other elements of office equipment such as the OZA drawing table, Jieldé lamp or Mullca chair, whose equivalents can be successfully found all over Europe, including Poland.
